MANTRA CHANTING

 mananāt trāyatē iti mantrah

The sustained repetition/contemplation (mananāt) of that which protects/releases (trāyatē) from all miseries arising from bondage or cycles of birth and death is called Mantra.

The meaning of the word mantra comes from the Sanskrit language, where Man means mind and Tra, which in general context addresses protection, control, or wisdom. Manan means involvement with thought.

Mantras

Lord Ganesha Mantra:

 Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha,
Nirvighnam Kurume Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada .

urved trunk, huge body physique, great genius like millions of suns, may my lord always complete all my work without hindrance or grace to complete it.

Gayatri Mantra:

oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥtat savitur vareṇyaṃ

bhargo devasya dhīmahidhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt– Ṛigveda

O Divine lord, our hearts are filled with darkness. Please make this darkness distant from us and promote illumination within us.

Starting prayer (Traditional Hatha Yoga)

Oṃ saha nāvavatu |
saha nau bhunaktu |
saha vīryaṃ karavāvahai |
tejasvi nāvadhītamastu mā vidviṣāvahai |
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ ||

(Taittiriya Upanishad)

May he (the Lord) protect both of us. May he nourish both of us (with knowledge). May

both of us make effort for the capacity (for knowledge to take place). May what is studied

by us, be brilliantly clear. Let not have any misunderstanding. Let there be freedom from

three possible obstacles . Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.

Om asato maa sad-gamaya |
Tamaso maa jyotir-gamaya |
Mrtyor-maa amrtam gamaya |
Om shaantih shaantih shaantih || (Brihadaranyak Upanishad)

Om, (O Lord) from unreality lead me towards the reality (eternal self). From the darkness (ignorance) lead me  towards the light (knowledge). From mortality (of Material Attachment) lead me towards the immortality (self-realization). Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.

Om bhadram karnnebhih shrnnuyaama devaah |
Bhadram pashyema-akssabhir-yajatraah |
Sthirair-anggais-tussttuvaamsas-tanuubhih |
Vyashema deva-hitam yad-aayuh |

Svasti na Indro vrddha-shravaah |
Svasti nah poossaa vshva-vedaah |
Svasti nas-taarkssyo arisstta-nemih |
Svasti na brhaspatir-dadhaatu ||
Om shaantih shaantih shaantih ||

Om, May we here only good and what is auspicious with our ears. May we See all the auspicious and adorable with our eyes. May we be Prayerful in Life with Steadiness in our Bodies and Minds. May we offer our lifespan allotted by the devas for the service of god.

May lord Indra  bless us. May the omniscient Poosha bless us . May the protector Garuda bless us . May Lord Brihaspati protect us . Om, Peace, Peace, Peace .

saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ saṃ vo manāṃsi jānatām |

devā bhāgaṃ yathā pūrve sañjānānā upāsate || Rigveda 10.191.2

May we move in harmony and speak in one voice. May all be wise and may our minds be in agreement. Remember that the Devatas are venerable because they have also conducted themselves in a similar manner since times immemorial. Let the divinity manifest in your sacred endeavours .

We offer our salutation to  noblest of sages Patanjali, who gave yoga for serenity and sanctity of mind, grammar for clarity and purity of speech and medicine for perfection of health.

Closing prayers:

Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-Purnnam-Udacyate
Puurnnashya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-Avashissyate ||
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||(Isha Upanishad)

Aum! That is infinite, and this (universe) is infinite.
The infinite proceeds from the infinite.
(Then) taking the infinitude of the infinite (universe),
It remains as the infinite alone.
Aum! Peace! Peace! Peace!

or

Satchidananda Parabrahma is Purna (complete). This world is born out of the infinite

Parabrahma, thus this world too is Purna (complete). Even if we remove everything from

what is complete, it still remains as Purna (complete).

oṃ sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
sarve santu nirāmayāḥ
sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścidduḥ khabhāgbhaveta।
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ॥(Brihadaranyaka Upanishad)

Oh Lord, Let all be happy, let all be free from disease, let all see goodness, let there be no victims of sorrow.

Pranayama Mantra:

Pranasyedam vase sarvam tridive yat pratisthitam

Maateva putraan raksasva sreescha pragnamcha vidhehi na iti ( Prashna Upanishad)

What ever exists in three worlds, Is all under the control of Prana. Prana, Protect us as a mother protects her sons, Give us affluence and intelligence.

Dhyana Mantra:

Bhagavad Gita 6.25||
śhanaiḥ śhanair uparamed buddhyā dhṛiti-gṛihītayā
ātma-sansthaṁ manaḥ kṛitvā na kiñchid api chintayet ( Bhagavad Gita 6.25)

Slowly and steadily, with conviction in the intellect, the mind will become fixed in God alone, and will think of nothing else.

Surya Namaskaar Mantra:

 Hiraṇmayena pātreṇa satyasyāpihitaṁ mukham
Tat tvaṁ pūṣann apāvṛṇu satya-dharmāya dṛṣṭaye  (Isha Upanishad)

The entrance of Truth is covered with a brilliant golden lid; that do thou remove, Oh Lord Sun, for the law of the Truth, for sight.
